No Hope for the Brownies

Forget what you've heard about Brady Quinn providing a spark for this offense. I'm not a Browns fan, so this doesnt bother me one bit. Anyone who knows me, or has talked to me about Brady Quinn knows how I feel about him.

Even if I'm wrong about him, how can he help this team forget that they paid a future first rounder for his services? This team has a lot of problems, and they arent getting any better.

Here are the facts. Unless Brady Quinn can add A LOT of weight and play on the defensive front to help these guys stop the run, he cant help this team. After three games, only the Bills have surrendered more rushing yards than the Browns.

The Browns have given up 529 rushing yards over three games, an average of just over 176 yards per game, and nearly five yards per carry. If you cant stop the run, you cannot win games. The Indianapolis Colts were the exception during the regular season last year, not the rule. They also had and still have a much better offense, but thats neither here nor there.

Next year, when April rolls around, what will Browns fans have to get excited about? Their pick in the top five or top ten?? Woops. Now, instead of drafting a defensive stud to help that AWFUL run defense, they'll have to wait until the second round to see what pops up.

Bottom line, if they dont find a way to stop teams from running the ball down their throats, they'll have no leg to stand on, no matter how early they may pick in the second round. Even if Brady Quinn does provide ANY kind of spark on offense, he still cant help that defensive front which has been on hits heels all year long.

If you are a Browns fan, do you still have any kind of hope that this will get better? If you do, then good luck, you are more faithful than me.

So lets say the Browns don't draft Quinn and don't give up next year's pick. They still suck they still pick between 5-15. They still have no QB, Charlie Frye still probably gets dumped. So next year they have to choose between a DT to stop the run or a franchise QB they desperately need. If you think they're taking the DT you're crazy.

So that means we still draft a QB and have to wait another year for him to develop. Regardless of how good Brady becomes it was the right move.

Byron Leftwich, Trent Green, Daunte Culpepper, David Carr, Donovan McNabb, etc. Any of the guys could/would have been ours for the money, either this season or next. Trading up to take Quinn is as bad as taking Winslow over Roethlisberger or Couch over Gullatta. Inexcusable.

The only problem is that all of those guys suck. Not only that, they all suck and are old.Kinda like Jeff Garcia and we all know how well that worked out. David Garrard, Damon Huard, Matt Schaub, Sage Rosenfels, and Kevin Kolb. Those are the guys who replaced/will replace the guys named. Not exactly murders' row.

And who exactly were we gonna draft if we kept the pick? Brian Brohm? We already drafted a gimmick system QB from the state of Kentucky. Don't want to go down that road again. Or maybe Chad Henne, why not we already lose to our rival every year. He'll fit right in.

If they dont draft Quinn, then they pick either Drew Stanton, Kevin Kolb or John Beck in the second round. All three of those guys would have been there if the Browns hadn't traded that second rounder for Quinn.

Bottom line: A team with this many holes had no business trading a second round pick this year and a first rounder next year for Brady Quinn. Now they are left in a position where they are complete shit this year, and wont draft until early in the second round next year.
